LYNNFIELD — Lynnfield For Love is hosting a two-part Juneteenth event on Monday, June 17, beginning at 6 p.m.

Lynnfield For Love President Darlene Kumar said, “The event will begin with our beloved Opal Lee Walk.”

“Our first tribute walk to Opal Lee, the Grandmother of Juneteenth, was held in 2022,” said Kumar. “We are thrilled to bring back this beautiful walk. We invite our community to join us as we gather first at Lynnfield Middle School. The Opal Lee Walk begins promptly at 6 p.m., so we welcome our neighbors to get there a few moments early. We will walk together to Town Common to emulate and honor the yearly 2.5 mile walks that Opal Lee logged to raise awareness so that Juneteenth will become a federal holiday. As we walk onto the Town Common an educational storyboard walk on Juneteenth will greet us. At 6:10 p.m., Lynnfield For Love and the North Shore Juneteenth Association will conduct Lynnfield’s Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremony. The featured line up includes singer Janey David, speaker Andre Bennett and poet Terry Carter. The Juneteenth flag raising will be performed by ROTC Salem Cadets.”

Immediately following the ceremony, Lynnfield For Love will be holding a reception featuring Juneteenth inspired refreshments.

“Please bring the whole family and join us for this educational and important event,” said Kumar. “We are grateful to the Lynnfield Cultural Council for its support.”

Lynnfield For Love is an all volunteer-led community group founded in 2016. “Our mission is connecting our community by focusing on diversity, equity, social justice and service,” said Kumar. “Our community events are fun, educational, absolutely family-friendly and everyone is always welcome. Please join us!”
