LYNNFIELD — Two members of the Lynnfield High softball team were named to the Cape Ann League All-Stars that were selected by the league coaches.

The two Pioneers to make the squad were Morgan Hubbard and Ava Gamache. Hubbard made the CAL First-Team All-Stars while Gamache made the CAL Second-Team All-Stars.

MORGAN HUBBARD

Hubbard, who was on the CAL Second-Team All-Stars last year, led the Pioneers in every offensive category.

She was 33 for 69 for a .478 average and in 79 plate appearances, she had 10 walks and only two strikeouts.

“As a sophomore, she hit .518 (29 for 56), but because we struggled so much at the plate this year, her hits this year seemed so much more impactful,” said Pioneers head coach Hector Longo.

She also had 18 runs batted in, 25 runs scored and one home run.

The junior shortstop had only five errors this spring.

“The best way to describe her defensive season was dynamic,” said Longo, as she played second and first base last year.

Gamache, a senior captain, hit .257, scored 20 runs and knocked in 10.

AVA GAMACHE

“Ava was a four-year starter and two-time first team all-league choice,” pointed out Longo. “She was a standout at third base for us. She also won the Lynnfield High Student-Athlete of the Year Award.”

The Pioneers reached the MIAA Division 4 state tournament and lost at home to Milbury, 6-5, in eight innings in the opening round on June 2.

They finished 8-13 overall and were 6-10 in the Cape Ann League. The Pioneers ended up in third place in the CAL Baker Division.
