Her door was always open to family and cherished friends

NORTH READING — Judith “Judie” K. (Tkachuk) Giannetto, 79, of North Reading, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2024 at Sunrise Assisted Living of Lynnfield. Judie was born on April 24, 1945, in Chelsea to the late Paul and Sophie Tkachuk. She is the former wife of Anthony Giannetto.

Judie is survived by her children, Lisa Santilli and her husband Mike of Middleton, Paula Ito and her husband Mark of Newton, and Michael Giannetto and his wife Meghan of Acton; her brother, Philip Tkachuk and his wife Karin of West Peabody, and her sister-in-law, Jean Tkachuk, of Dennis. She was predeceased by her sisters, Ray LaRosa and Lillian Grady, and her brothers, Leon, George, Edward, Walter, and Paul Tkachuk. She was affectionately known as Grammy and ReRe by her grandchildren, Michael and Courtney Santilli, Lauren Santilli, Luke Ito, Nora Ito, Clara Giannetto and Graeme Giannetto, and great-grandsons, Brayden and Mason Santilli.

Judie was a longtime resident of North Reading. Her home on North Street bustled with activity while she was raising her children and was a frequent hang out of Lisa, Paula, and Michael’s friends. Judie was always welcoming, and her door was never locked (and if it was, everyone knew the key was in the mailbox). Judie cherished her relationships with friends old and new, and appreciated a good joke and a good time. Her friendships endured the test of time, many of them lasting for decades.

Judie stayed home to care for her kids when they were young and later worked as an administrator at various local car dealerships. In retirement, Judie continued to stay busy working at a local retirement community where she enjoyed connecting with the residents.

An avid reader, Judie was never without a book. She also enjoyed local theater, board games, puzzles, and especially loved holidays and celebrations with her family.

Judith’s funeral was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18 at the Chapel at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. Friends and relatives visited with the family at the Cota Funeral Home, 335 Park Street, North Reading on Monday, June 17 from 4-7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Judith to All Care Hospice, 210 Market Street, Lynn, MA 01901 or to the charity of your choice.
