MELROSE — On Thursday, April 14, in the Veterans Memorial Middle School, the arts will come alive.

For the 8th year in a row the Victoria McLaughlin Foundation has joined with the Melrose Public Schools Fine Arts Department to combine the 2016 Melrose Public School Annual Art Exhibit with the Celebrate the Arts! Evening line-up. From 5 P.M to 8:30 P.M. we will celebrate the achievement in visual and musical arts by Melrose Public School students. The evening will feature artwork by K-12 students as well as musical performances by the MHS Orchestra, MHS Jazz Band and the Honors Chorus group. Dessert and coffee will be served.

5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Melrose Public School Annual Art Exhibit.

7:00 – 7:45 p.m. Music Program featuring MHS Orchestra & Chorus.

7:45 – 8:30 p.m. Musical Entertainment featuring MHS String Quartet.

Admission is free. Attendees will have the opportunity to view student artwork, listen to the MHS Orchestra and Chorus, and here a musical piece from the upcoming drama production. Appetizers and non-alcoholic beverages will be served.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to support afterschool programs and the Victoria McLaughlin Library through the purchase/sponsorship of books, donations, and purchase of raffle tickets and silent auction items.

Funds raised through the event have funded the following:

After school programs, including the Melrose Middle School Newspaper, ballroom dancing, Robotics/Lego League, Band Gig, and after school art programs; a Smart Board for the Victoria McLaughlin Library (VML); the electronic library subscription for the VML, making hundreds/thousands of electronic books and other media available to students, teachers and staff; ongoing funding for new material acquisition at the VML; Melrose Movie Night Out at Memorial Hall during the summer months 6th Grade American History program at the Melrose Veteran’s Memorial Middle School, including the donation of 30 Nook E-Readers.
