Loved to volunteer, go to Florida in the wintertime, and Nova Scotia
TEWKSBURY — Benedict J. “Dick” Pothier passed away peacefully at home in Tewksbury surrounded by his family on September 13, 2022, he was 91 years of age. Dick was born in Wedgeport, Nova Scotia on October 26, 1930 to the late Henri and Neomise (Surette) Pothier. He was raised in Nova Scotia and came to the US at the age of 23. He was a resident of Melrose for 30 years before moving to Tewksbury.
Dick worked as an electrician at Transitron in Melrose for 10 years, Massport for a few years and then at Hewlett Packard for 20 years. In his later years he was a dedicated and beloved volunteer at N.E. Rehab of Salem, N.H. Dick loved spending winters with friends and family at his place in Vero Beach, Florida, but above all he never felt so at home as he did in Nova Scotia, a place he held near dear to his heart.
Dick was the husband of the late Jeanne R. (LeBlanc) Pothier. Loving father of Richard K. Pothier and his wife Susan of Nashua, N.H. and Robert G. Pothier and his wife Sandra of Tewksbury. Proud grandfather of Kathryn (Pothier) Davis and her husband Matt of Maine and Robert Pothier of Tewksbury. Cherished brother of the late Bourneuf and Donald Pothier. Dick was also survived by his second wife Barbara Ambrose Pothier and her family as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St. Melrose, on Friday, September 16, 2022 from 5 – 7 p.m. Friends and family gathered at the funeral home on Saturday morning at 9 a.m., before leaving in procession for a Mass of Christian burial at St. Mary’s Church, Herbert St. Melrose, at 10 a.m. Interment at Puritan Lawn Cemetery in Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
