WAKEFIELD — Due to popular demand for more outdoor flicks in its Movies by the Lake series, Wakefield Community Access TV (WCAT) is thrilled to bring a blockbuster movie to Wakefield on Thursday, July 23 at 8:30 p.m
This critically acclaimed, cult-classic movie, puts Throwback Thursday front and center and is sure to draw a crowd of mixed ages. The title is a secret, but here are a few hints: Celebrating its 30th anniversary, this is the first of a famous trilogy about a kid who meets his parents back in the 1950s and tries to make their lives turn out OK. With a superb screenplay that artfully blends storytelling, action, science fiction and special effects, this groundbreaking adventure made Michael J. Fox super famous. The movie features Doc Brown, Marty McFly and a Time Machine. Can you guess, yet? We hope so!
“This is my favorite trilogy and I often refer to the script when I teach screen writing,” said Scott Kurland, technical director of WCAT-Wakefield. “Of the movies we are showing this summer, this one has sentimental meaning for me, because this was the first movie my father showed me,” he added.
This family-friendly movie is free, thanks to the support of The Savings Bank, WCAT and the Wakefield Recreation Department. Come early to see the real, part 1 tribute DeLorean Time Machine! Beginning at 6 p.m., car enthusiast Bill Shea of 88mphtimemachine.com will display movie props and the DeLorean, just one of several vehicles he has outfitted to match each part in the trilogy. Photos with the Time Machine are $5 and $10; all proceeds go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
For each of this summer’s Movies by the Lake (July 23, Aug. 13, Aug. 22 and Sept. 2), the sponsors are collecting non-perishable food items for the Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry (https://www.wifoodpantry.org/donate-food). Please bring peanut butter, jelly, tuna, cereal, spaghetti sauce and pasta, etc. to the bins near the Gazebo.
Information about the series, including rain dates, can be found on the Wakefield Recreation Department website, www.wakerec.com and the Facebook page of Wakefield Community Access TV.
