BEDFORD — The North Reading High boys’ lacrosse team went to Bedford for its final game of the regular season on May 24. The Hornets ended up losing 14-5 to end the regular season at 5-13 overall.

The Buccaneers, who play in one of the elite leagues in the state in the Dual County League, improved to 11-7 with the win.

“They were the better team,” acknowledged Hornets head coach Chuck Campobasso. “But I was disappointed in our own performance.”

Bedford took control early and built an 11-2 halftime advantage.

Sam Morelli led the Hornet offense with three goals and one assist. Logan Lamont had one goal and one assist while PJ. Conte had two assists to go with one goal.

Goalie Dave Tran made 13 saves.

The good news for the team is that they will likely still qualify for the Division 3 state tournament due to their tough schedule.

In the latest MIAA Division 3 power rankings, the Hornets were ranked 29th as the top 32 schools automatically qualify regardless of record.

The bracket came out for the state tournament on Wednesday afternoon after press time.
