BOSTON — The Wakefield boys’ track and field team had a huge night on Sunday in the MSTCA Division 4 State Relays at the Reggie Lewis Center. The Warriors scored 53 team points en route to winning the whole thing.

The meet features 10 different relay events including running and field events. The Warriors won two of those events, placed 2nd in three and scored in the top six n three events.

The meet showcases the depth of the teams competing. There are over 50 teams in Division 4. The scoring went as follows: 1st-10 points, 2nd-8 points, 3rd-6 points, 4th-4 points, 5th-2 points, 6th-1 point.

The 4×800 meter relay team of Ethan Mezikofsky, Ollie Polster, Mike Arria, and Liam Taggart got the win with a time of 8:18.28.

Soon after, in the Sprint Medley Relay, the team of Aiden Jones (200 meters), Ethan Gori (200 meters), Brody Wyatt (400 meters) and William Mezikofsky (800 meters) placed 2nd in 3:40.30 missing nationals by just 0.3 of a second.

Adding a valuable point was the SMR B team of Ian Christie (200m), Alejandro Borda (200m), Aidan Burd (400m) and Brendan Campea (800m) who placed 6th in a time of 3:56.38.

The 4×200 meter relay team of Isaac Melo, Carter Jefferson, Adam Levy and Ethan Gori placed 5th in 1:37.19.

The High Jump relay team of Joe Patt  5’11.5, JaMauri Belmer 5’11.5” and Aiden Jones 5’5.75” combined for 17’5” to place 2nd.

The Distance Medley Relay team of William Mezikofsky (1200m), Joe Patt (400m), Ollie Poster (800m) and Liam Taggart (mile) easily placed 1st in 11:03.20.

The DMR B team of Andrew Nett( 1200m), Aidan Martin (400m), Alec Buonopane-Cohen (800m) and Brandon Nett (mile) placed a rare 3rd in a time of 11:23.24.

Going into the 4×400 meter relay, the final event, there was extra drama involved.  

In order to pull off the team victory, the 4×400 needed 5th place for 2 points in order to put the Warriors our of reach of trailing Pembroke. If the Warriors failed to score and Pembroke placed 1st in the relay, the Titans would take the team title.  

Winter Track 2024 Wakefield High

Fortunately, the Wakefield team of  Ethan Gori, Isaac Melo, Ethan Mezikofsky and Brody Wyatt were on starting line as one of the favorites. Even though Pembroke took a lead halfway through the race, the Warriors ended up taking 2nd behind Gloucester’s relay by running a time of 3:34.83 just ahead of Pembroke. The 8 points earned by the 4×400 team secured the Warriors their second State Relay title in three years.

Also competing well were the Shot Put relay team of Frankie Sullivan (39’11.5”), Tym Brown (39’5.25”) and Owen Brudnik  (29’2)”  placing 10th with a combined distance of 108’6”.

The 4×50 Shuttle Dash team of Isaac Melo, JaMauri Belmer, Adam Levy and Carter Jefferson came in 9th running 23.53 seconds.

The 4×50 Shuttle Dash B all freshman team of Jackson Beede, Michael Mititchev, Wyatt Timas and Michael Viselli placed 27th in 25.12 seconds.

The 4×200 B all freshman team of Jackson Beede, Jackson Conley, Michael Mititchev and Wyatt Timas placed 30th in a time of 1:47.09.

The 4×400 B team of Aidan Burd, Mhamed Boukataya, Aidan Martin and Jacob Ciriello placed 12th running 3:49.28.

The 4×800 B team of Mhamed Boukataya, Jacob Ciriello, Tyler Galante and Marcelo Caruso placed 10th in a time of 9:02.
