WESTFIELD—The Melrose High girls track team will be sending a collection of athletes to the MIAA Tournament of Champions this weekend, where they will compete with the best within all state divisions, this after securing a 10th place finish at the Div. 4 State Finals on May 22 at Westfield High.

Melrose had multiple medal winners in several events and will send athletes to compete for the most coveted prize in the outdoor track season. Those representing Melrose include Cadence L’Heureux, who has qualified individually in the 400 hurdles, seeded 14th, and the 4×800 relay team that could be made up by Mazie Frakt, Darby Thompson, Amy Rowe, Reilly Powell and Emma Drago.

On Saturday, Melrose’s Cadence L’Heureux became a state bronze medalist by placing third in the 400 hurdles. It was also a great day for Reilly Powell who collected two medals, placing 4th in the 2 mile and later medaling in the 1 mile when placing 7th

Melrose’s 4×800 relay team of Emma Drago, Mazie Frakt, Naomi Breay and Reilly Powell placed 5th which got them on the podium. Aisling Donegan also medaled by placing 4th in the javelin. Emme Boyer medaled in 5thin the shot put and was 21st in discus.
