US Navy veteran

WAKEFIELD — William “Bill” L. Forsyth, 75, of Wakefield, formerly of Peabody, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 7 at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading surrounded by his loving family.  He was the beloved husband of Patricia (Hurton) Forsyth with whom he shared 51 years of marriage.

He was born in Lynn on December 20, 1948 and is the cherished son of the late William and Margaret (Dougall) Forsyth. Bill was a graduate of Peabody High School, Class of 1966 before entering the Navy in September at the age of 17. After fighting for our country in the Vietnam War, Bill was a self-employed electrician for many years before joining Dagle Electrical Construction Corp. 

Bill was a proud member of many Veterans organizations and most recently was a volunteer on the USS Cassin Young restoration in Charlestown where he met many new friends. He was also the Past Commodore at the Jubilee Yacht Club in Beverly where he was a life member. Bill had many special times in his 1953 Oldsmobile, but his greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren Evan and Maggie. 

In addition to his wife Patricia, Bill is survived by his daughter Lindsay McCaffrey and her husband David of Wakefield; his grandchildren Evan and Maggie McCaffrey, both of Wakefield; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. Sadly, in addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his siblings Margaret Bailey and David and Douglas Forsyth.  

Visiting hours will be held at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody on Sunday, July 14 from 2 to 5 p.m. His funeral service will be held Monday morning in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. followed by a procession to Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield for his burial with Navy Military Honors.
