NEWBURY — On Sept. 23, the Lynnfield High golf team lost to host Triton 142-138, at Ould Newbury Golf Club on a cloudy, cool day.

It was the team’s fifth straight loss as they fell to 3-5. The defeat means that the Pioneers must win their final three matches in order to qualify for the sectionals.

“We have a very young team and only a couple of players have played there before,” said Moresco. “We had two players make their varsity debut and the match turned out very tight.”

One of those players making their varsity debut, Aidan Bird, had a memorable one as he tied Cam Dembro for the team-high score (Stableford scoring) with 28 points.

“Aidan came up big,” said Moresco, about the junior.

Three Pioneers scored 22 points: Paul Daley, Owen Doherty and C.J. Patermo.

The final Lynnfield score that counted was Angelo Covino who had 16.

The home match against North Reading slated for Sept. 26 was rained out and will be made up on Oct. 7 at 3:30 p.m.

Lynnfield’s next match will be Oct. 2 as they go to Essex County Club to take on host Manchester-Essex. Both of those matches will start at 3:30 p.m.
