MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA — On Oct. 8, the Lynnfield High boys’ soccer team edged host Manchester-Essex, 2-1, in an exciting game under the lights.

With that win, the Pioneers’ record went to 9-1-3 overall and 9-0-2 in the Cape Ann League. Meanwhile, the Hornets, who are the CAL Baker Division leaders, fell to 9-3-1.

Matt Reinold was the hero for the Pioneers in this one scoring the game-winning goal in the 14th-minute of the second half assisted by Rocco Scenna.

Reinold also had the game-winner against Ipswich last month.

The Hornets scored first on a penalty kick with 12 minutes left in the first half.

Lynnfield tied it six minutes into the second stanza as Joel Anthony scored moments after a corner kick as Reinold was credited with the assist.

Lynnfield goalie, Kelan Cardinal, made seven saves to go to 9-1-3 in net.

“It was a playoff atmosphere,” stated Lynnfield head coach Brent Munroe. “We might see them again in the states (Division 4).”

Munroe was also pleased with the way the team fought back after a first half in which Munroe felt his team was outplayed.

“We outplayed them in the second half and I felt that this was our best win of the season considering we had to comeback against a very good team on the road,” he said.

On Oct. 17, the Pioneers visit Rockport at 6 p.m.

They then welcome Essex Tech on Oct. 19 at 3 p.m. looking for a season sweep over the Hawks as they beat them, 3-1, back on Sept. 10.

That is also the team’s Senior Day as the seven 12th-graders will be honored starting at 2:30 p.m.

On Oct. 22, the Pioneers host Amesbury at 4 p.m.

Lynnfield entered this week ranked 2nd in the MIAA Division 4 power rankings only behind Pittsfield.
