LYNNFIELD — The girls’ soccer team concluded the regular season last week and is now gearing up for the Division 4 state tournament.
Lynnfield (13-3-2) began last week defeating Amesbury 7-0 on Oct. 22.
Sophomore midfielder/forward Kaylee Barrett found the back of the net two minutes into the contest, assisted by sophomore forward Ava Damiani and senior captain/midfielder Emma Rose.
Senior captain/forward Bella Carroll gave the Pioneers a 2-0 lead after receiving a pass from Rose four minutes into the game.
Rose drilled a shot nine minutes into the first half, which gave Lynnfield a 3-0 lead at the break.
Barrett scored her second goal of the contest four minutes into the second half. Sophomore midfielder Hannah Doherty had the assist.
Damiani scored 10 minutes into the second half after receiving a pass from sophomore midfielder Giada Antidormi.
Carroll scored her second goal of the contest with 11 minutes remaining in the game. Sophomore defender Jordan Calichman had the assist.
Barrett finished with her second career hat trick after drilling a shot with two minutes remaining in the game, assisted by sophomore midfielder Sofia Giardina.
“Kaylee came up big with the hat trick,” said Pioneers head coach Mark Vermont.
Sophomore goalie Victoria Minor recorded two saves in net against the Redhawks.
Vermont said Carroll and Damiani both played great games against Amesbury.
“Bella and Ava had great games and caused a lot of problems,” said Vermont.
Vermont said the Pioneers’ midfield played well against the Redhawks.
“Emma, Giada and senior Morgan Hubbard did a nice job in the midfield,” said Vermont.
Vermont said the Pioneers played a complete game against Amesbury.
“Amesbury is a tough team,” said Vermont. “We really overpowered them with our attack.”
Declaws Panthers
The Pioneers kept rolling and defeated Pentucket 2-0 on Oct. 24.
Giardina scored her first varsity goal 11 minutes into the first half after receiving a pass from Antidormi.
“It was pretty cool Sofia got her first varsity goal,” said Vermont. “She played a great game and caused a lot of problems for Pentucket.”
Doherty scored her first goal of the season two minutes into the second half, assisted by Carroll.
Minor tallied three saves in the cage against Pentucket.
Vermont said Rose played a great game for the Pioneers.
“Emma was all over the place,” said Vermont. “She did a great job dictating the tempo.”
Vermont said the Pioneers played well against the Panthers.
“Pentucket is well-coached,” said Vermont. “They did a nice job defending us.”
Falls to Marblehead
The Pioneers concluded the regular season falling 3-0 to Marblehead on Oct. 26.
Marblehead scored its first goal 22 minutes into the first half.
The Magicians took a 2-0 lead four minutes before halftime.
Marblehead scored its final goal off of a free kick 23 minutes into the second half.
“We had a good wall set, but Marblehead was able to put it over the wall,” said Vermont.
Minor had four saves in the cage against the Magicians.
Vermont said senior captain Ariana Guarracino played a great defensive game.
“Ariana had a great game,” said Vermont. “She won a lot of balls for us with her head.”
Vermont said the Magicians are a very talented team.
“Marblehead is a great squad that is very fast, technical and physical,” said Vermont.
