U.S. Army veteran

LYNNFIELD — On the first day of the new year, Vincent Sutera Sr. passed peacefully from this life into the next where he was receiving care at Beverly Hospital. Formerly of Lynnfield, Vincent lived a rich and full life of 84 years.

He was born in the heart of North End on Oct. 27, 1940 from his late parents of Ingazio (Nat) and Lillian Sutera ( Cologera Catanzaro). Shortly after his early childhood years, the family moved to Everett, where he grew up in a part of Everett called the “Village,” a community of second or third generation Italian Americans. He was active in track and field, where he earned numerous medals for his athletic ability and graduated from high school.

Upon graduation, Vincent worked full time as a sales manager for Rainbow Provisions while also enlisting in the Army Reserves. He was called to active duty, where he served in the Army until 1964. After his service in the Army, he ventured out in 1966 to form his own business called Fair Oaks Provisions, where he was a provisioner of meats and cheeses, both domestic and imported. He enjoyed monthly card games with his friends and was known to visit the race track with them on occasion. A surprising fact that many did not know is that during his early years as an adult, he had a passion for art, specifically oil painting. It was also at this time he started to cultivate a family that grew into multi-generations.

Vincent was the loving husband of Adrienne (Berlandi) Sutera. He was the beloved father of Vincent Sutera Jr. and his husband Daniel Young of Sudbury; Mark Sutera and his wife Laureen of North Andover; and Chris Sutera and his wife Colleen of Lynnfield. He was the brother of Stephen Sutera, Lillian Brassil and John Sutera. Vincent was also the grandfather of Katie, Ellie, Sarah, Austin and Lana.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Lynnfield on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025. A private interment was held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. The McDonald Funeral Home in Wakefield handled the arrangements. In lieu of flowers for the bereaving family, please consider contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Vincent Sutera Sr. To sign the guestbook, visit mcdonaldfs.com.
