NORTH READING — With their victory over Triton in their regular season finale, the Hornets clinched their first Cape Ann League title since 1993, which they will share with Pentucket. North Reading is 18–2 and will take on the winner of Manchester–Essex vs. South Boston in the Division 3 North Quarterfinals on Thursday March 3at 7 p.m. at NRHS.

Lezon Named Co-MVP

After their Triton victory the CAL Postseason Awards were announced. Senior captain Jess Lezon was selected as League Co–MVP, senior captain Carly Swartz was a First Team All-Star and Katerina Hassapis was named a Second Team All-Star.

Triton takes a fall, 41-31

Senior captain Jess Lezon recorded her 15th double–double of the season as the Hornets travelled to Triton and downed the Vikings, 41–31 on February 24. Lezon scored 19 points to go along with 21 rebounds.

The Vikings took an early 4–2 lead. But for the rest of the first quarter it was all North Reading. The Hornets closed the quarter on a 12–4 run to take a 14–8 lead after one. At the start of the second quarter Triton hit a three to trim the lead to 14–11. Once again though the Hornets closed the quarter strong, this time going on a 14–4 run to go up 28–15 at the half.

Both offenses struggled in the second half. Despite only scoring 13 points the entire half North Reading maintained at least an eight point lead and went on to the 41–31 win.
