Spada-obit-webMELROSE — Christine (Thompson) Spada, 70, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at home on Friday, May 26.

Christine was born in Somerville on October 26, 1946, daughter of the late Earl E. Thompson and Catherine (O’Gorman) Thompson. As the youngest of six children, Christine was raised in a close-knit family. She graduated from high school, and began working as a bookkeeper for her brother’s company Dartmouth Construction in Malden where she worked for 20 years. Good with numbers, Christine then worked as the bookkeeper for KBA Architects in Charlestown for 15 years. She enjoyed her positions working in bookkeeping, and was well-liked by staff for her friendly manner, and strong work ethic.

Christine was a sweet, caring person who loved to have fun and had several longtime and loyal friends who remained close to her heart throughout her life. She enjoyed playing cards with family, going dancing, and gambling, every so often. She loved her home where she was happiest reading a good book, doing some crochet, or watching one of many game shows with a glass of white wine.

For many years, Christine loved hosting dinner parties for friends and family. She enjoyed cooking, sharing a laugh with her friends, and was known for always bringing Russian caviar. Christine also enjoyed traveling to Martha’s Vineyard every 4th of July to visit friends in Edgartown or going camping with family and friends in New Hampshire.

Most of all, Christine was a loving family woman who has now been reunited with her late husband and sons. She will be forever remembered.

Christine was the beloved wife of the late Frank P. Spada with whom she shared 28 years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of the late Eric C. Spada and his surviving partner Debra L. Rachlen of Melrose, and the late Christopher P. Spada. She was the loving sister of Rose Shadduck of San Anselmo, CA, Earl E. Thompson and his wife Flora of Reading, Catherine Bresnahan of Wilmington, Mary Mastropietro-Denehy and her husband Daniel of North Reading, and the late Eleanor Lubinger and her surviving husband Joseph of FL. She was the cherished grandmother of Christopher, Frank, Farrah, and Vincent Spada. She is also survived by Arlene Rose of Medford who was like a sister to Christine, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends gathered in honor of Christine during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Tuesday, May 30, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and again for her funeral service celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
