NORTH READING — The annual Thanksgiving Day football game will be held at 10 a.m. at  Lynnfield High School this year, marking a new tradition in the 56–year rivalry between the Hornets and Pioneers.

Lynnfield has completed a total makeover of its soccer and football field facilities, constructing a new turf field behind Lynnfield High School. The LHS fields makeover includes the brand new synthetic turf Pioneer Stadium, which is where this year’s Hornets and Pioneers battle will be played. Local residents are encouraged to arrive at the game before kickoff at 10 a.m. because there will be a parking crunch at LHS.

In addition to the parking crunch, seating at the game will be limited. The bleachers are designed to fit 826 spectators, so Hornet fans should get to the game early.

According to Fields Committee Chairman Arthur Bourque, the 3,800 square foot amenities building located at the LHS fields complex is “substantially complete.” He anticipates the building will be finished just in time for this year’s turkey tilt.

“All parties involved have commented on the excellent work done by the contractor in finishing the building,” said Bourque. “It is a well-constructed building that has already provided a great benefit to those attending events at the facility.”

The LHS fields complex will consist of five new synthetic turf fields once the project is officially completed in early December. In addition to Pioneer Stadium, two full–size turf synthetic turf fields have been completed. Contractors are also in the process of completing new synthetic turf baseball and softball fields.
