WAKEFIELD — Richard Torpey of Wakefield, formerly of Charlestown and Somerville, died at his home on Monday, Dec. 8.
Born in Boston on Aug. 19, 1933, he was the son of the late James J. and Mary E. (Powers) Torpey.
Richard was raised and educated in Charlestown and was a retired truck driver for Ryerson Steel in Allston. He was a member of St. Florence Church and a loyal member of Teamsters Local #379. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Richie’s favorite quote: “Buy USA products.”
Richard was the beloved husband of Marilyn (Faletra) Torpey, with whom he shared 51 years of marriage. He was the loving father of Donna Torpey and Sue Molloy and her husband Jack, all of Wakefield. He was the devoted Papa to granddaughters Melissa and Makenzie. He was the wonderful brother to sisters Mary, Rita and Anne all of from Lynn. He was also the brother-in-law of Charles and Fred, who will sorely miss their gambling buddy, and his sister-in-law Millie who added Richie’s name to every weekly church bulletin.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave. on Friday at 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Florence Church, 47 Butler Ave. at 11:30 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.
