One-time Melrose city clerk, clerk of committees
MELROSE — Jane Bearse (Horton) Munro, 94, passed away at her home in Melrose on Dec. 10.
Jane was born in Wakefield on July 30, 1920 to the late Clyde and Grace (O’Kelly) Horton. She was raised in Melrose, graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1938 and was a lifelong resident.
Mrs. Munro worked as the city clerk for the City of Melrose and clerk of committees for over 20 years and part time in the Assessors Office.
A longtime member of Most Blessed Sacrament Church, Jane was a member of the Guild at church, Melrose Women’s Club, Arts & Crafts Society, Wild Wednesday Women’s Knitting Group, enjoyed playing bridge and canasta.
Mrs. Munro loved to travel, taking trips to Ireland, England, several other European countries and South America.
Jane was the loving mother of Jane Melanson of Gloucester, James Munro of Melrose and Denmark, Maine and the late John V. Munro Jr. She was the cherished grandmother of Kimberly Genereux and her husband Paul of Ware, Marc Melanson of Melrose, Rob Melanson of Gloucester, Jessica Munro and Shannon Munro of Melrose. She was the devoted great-grandmother of Brianna Melanson of Ware and Asher Melanson of Gloucester. She was the sister of the late Clyde K. Horton Jr. and his late wife Sylvia.
The funeral from the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St., Melrose, was on Wednesday, Dec. 17, at 9 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield, at 10 a.m.
Burial at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.
