Enjoyed bowling, gardening and trips to Disney World

WAKEFIELD – Eleanor M. Barry, 89, a longtime Wakefield resident, died Friday, November 30, 2018 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.

Born on June 25, 1929 she was the daughter of the late Edward and Jessie (Thomas) Hamel.

Mrs. Barry had been a Wakefield resident for more than 65 years and was a member of St. Florence Church. She loved to bowl and to garden and had a passion for arts and crafts and loved making floral arrangements. Mrs. Barry loved to travel with her late husband and especially loved trips to Disney World. Above all, she loved her family.

She was the beloved wife of the late Francis S. Barry. She was the loving mother of Susan Mitchell of Wakefield, Stephen Barry and his wife Janice of Wakefield and Glenn F. Barry of Wareham and the late Lynn Herron. She was the sister of the late Louise Mullaney, Jean Proctor and Thomas Hamel. She was the loving grandmother of Jeffrey Mitchell, Jason Mitchell and his wife Cherilyn Day-Mitchell, Christopher Barry, Ryan Barry and his wife Rebecca, and Tyler Barry; as well as her great-grandchildren: Hayley, Jordan, Jason and Cole Mitchell. Eleanor is also survived by her son-in-law John Dantini.

Her funeral service will be held in the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday at 11 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Interment will be private.
