PEABODY — The Peabody/Lynnfield/North Reading girls’ co-op hockey team won two more games last week to bring their record to 9-2-1 overall. The Tanners remain one point ahead of Masconomet for first place in the Northeastern Hockey League. 

The Tanners beat Waltham 1-0 on Jan. 16 at Veterans Memorial Rink behind the strong work of a few Hornets. North Reading’s Maria Pierce scored the lone goal of the game assisted by Hornet teammates Sammie Mirasolo and Paige Thibedeau. Jeny Collins, also of NRHS, was fantastic in net, earning her the shutout.

On Saturday, Peabody/Lynnfield/North Reading took on Marblehead back at McVann-O’Keefe Rink in Peabody. 

The Tanners were all over the Magicians from the first drop of the puck, resulting in a 5-1 victory. Abby Buckley had a strong game in net. Jen Flynn scored the first goal of the game 32 seconds into the first period, assisted by NR’s Ella McTeague.

Sadie Gearan, assisted by Thibedeau, scored at 2:30, followed by a goal from North Reading’s Jessica Robert assisted by Kat DiGiulio and Flynn at 5:11 to give PLNR a 3-0 lead after one.

DiGiulio would score the only goal of the second period at 2:10, assisted by Robert. Elise Staunton would cap off the scoring for PLNR at 10:08 into the third period. Marblehead scored their lone goal with 1:12 remaining in the game.

The Tanners played Melrose (7-3-1) after press time on Wednesday, 6 p.m. at Flynn Memorial Rink in Medford. The team hosts Oakmont (0-8-1) Saturday at 12 p.m. back at McVann/O’Keefe Rink.
