LYNNFIELD — Edith C. Wendt, 94, a longtime Lynnfield resident, died Sunday, March 3, 2019 at her residence.
Born in Lynn on May 15, 1924 she was the daughter of the late Thomas F. and Hetti M. (Wade) Charlton.
Mrs. Wendt was raised in Saugus and was a graduate of Saugus High School. She met her husband, the late Harry C. Wendt, while working at GE in Lynn and the two were married in 1949. They soon settled in Lynnfield in 1955 and raised their family. In her husband’s early retirement years, they spent a good amount of time traveling the globe. Mrs. Wendt was active in the Lynnfield community; she was an active volunteer at the senior center, a dedicated member of the Centre Congregational Church, and served as a past chairman of the Lynnfield Housing Authority. She was also a past Queen of the Daughters of the Nile and was an accomplished knitter.
She was the mother of Harry “Chris” Wendt and his wife Donna of Westminster, Frederick C. Wendt and his wife Patricia of Tyngsborough, and the late Margaret “Libby” Wendt, and the late William Geoffrey Wendt. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends that cared for her in recent years.
A memorial service will be celebrated at the Centre Congregational Church, 5 Summer St., Lynnfield on Friday at 11 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. Interment will be private.
