MELROSE — Chief Michael L. Lyle said the Melrose Police Department will participate in an active shooter training drill throughout next week.
The training will take place inside the Horace Mann School, 40 Damon Ave. on Monday, June 17 to Thursday, June 20 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Residents in the area may hear loud noises and bangs and see a number of police units in the area.
Residents should know that this is only a training drill and that there is no danger. Only blank/training rounds and noise simulators will be used during the training.
The training scenario is meant to better prepare the Melrose Police Department for the unlikely yet extremely dangerous occurrence of an active shooter in the city.
Any member of the public who has questions about this training may contact the Melrose Police Department at 781-665-1212.
