Team completes 15th season at Hillview

NORTH READING — Several golfers from the Hillview Golf Course Special Olympics Tournament Team competed in the Special Olympics Massachusetts Tournament of Champions at Stow Acres Country Club this past Saturday and Sunday.
The Tournament of Champions, the state championship for the summer season and one of four state-wide tournaments throughout the year, featured over 1,200 athletes competing in bocce, cycling, fishing, softball and sailing as well as golf.
Five golfers from the Hillview team competed and won medals at Stow Acres.
Tyler Lagasse, who finished with a two over par 74 on Sunday and Isaac Williams won gold medals in their divisions playing 36 holes independently over two days.
Keith Peabody won silver also playing 36 holes independently.

Nate Simons and his Unified Partner, Geof Simons, won the gold medal in their division playing 36 holes in alternate shot format.
The Hillview Golf Course Tournament Team recently completed its 15th season in North Reading. Golfers play practice rounds to establish handicaps for seeding in the state tournament and receive instruction from Hillview GC golf professional Chris Carter and his staff. Fifteen golfers and Unified Partners participate with the team, which is organized by North Reading resident Geof Simons.
Earlier in August, Hillview Golf Course hosted the Northeast Massachusetts Special Olympics Golf Qualifying Tournament, one of three tournaments around the state that weekend. At this one-day competition, 52 Athletes and Unified Partners played nine holes of alternate shot golf and the members of the Hillview Tournament Team played 18 holes.
Nate Simons, a graduate of North Reading High School and Riverview School in Sandwich, is a full-time employee at Children’s Hospital in Boston. His other Special Olympic sports are flag football, basketball and swimming which he plays with Brookline, where he lives independently.
