CASTLETON, Vt. — The Castleton State College men’s hockey team performed well both on and off the ice this season as Charles Bando of Wakefield was one of the team’s 13 players selected to the ECAC Men’s East All-Academic Team, as announced by the conference on Monday.

A total of 109 student-athletes from all 10 member-institutions were named to the squad this year with Castleton placing the third most honorees of any program.

Seniors Brian Greene and Thomas Shelley headlined the Spartan nominations after earning their spot on the team for the second straight season. They were joined on the squad by juniors Bando, Ben Bauer, Tyler Gaudry, Derek Gingera, Eric Mack and Brian Wadsworth as well as sophomores Mark Hochman, Brock Labelle, Corbin Marcotte, Bart Moran and Patrick Thornton.

To be named to the ECAC Men’s East All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year at their current institution and have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Castleton is small enough to be a community where every student matters, yet offers more than 30 academic programs, 27 intercollegiate sports and over 40 clubs and organizations. The college stresses community service and provides exceptional programs for first year students.
