LYNNFIELD — On Monday afternoon, the Lynnfield High softball team won its fourth game in a row as they beat guest Newburyport by a final of 9-0. With that victory, the Pioneers improved to 4-1.
Reilly Ganter pitcher her first complete-game shutout of the spring as she allowed three hits, no walks and she struck out three.
“She was excellent,” said Lynnfield head coach Peter Marinelli. “She threw a lot of strikes and the defense was outstanding behind her.”
Lynnfield committed only one error.
The Pioneers’ offense had 11 hits led by Chloe Shapleigh as the senior co-captain went 3 for 4 with two triples and one run batted in.
Ganter, the other senior co-captain, had two RBI on a single and fielder’s choice.
Lynnfield scored once in the first inning and four times in the second. They tacked on three runs in the fourth and one more in the fifth.
Last Friday, the Pioneers won 14-0 at Hamilton-Wenham in a five-inning mercy-rule game.
“They have a very young team this season,” pointed out Marinelli.
Ganter pitched four innings allowing one hit, two walks and fanning two. Sophia Brown, a freshman, closed the door pitching in the fifth to end the game.
The offense pounded 16 hits off General pitching led by Ganter who was a perfect 4 for 4 with a team-high five RBI. Shapleigh, Celia Carbone and Maddie Condon were all 2 for 3 at the dish. Carbone knocked in two while Condon and Shapleigh both had one RBI.
Ava Gamache was 2 for 4 with two RBI while Lauren Amico reached base three times going 1 for 2 with a walk and she was hit by a pitch.
Ava Marotta was the fifth Pioneer multiple hitter going 2 for 4.
Lynnfield scored three times in the first and broke the game wide open with six in the top of the second inning.
On May 12, the Pioneers rolled over visiting Rockport, 12-2. After the Vikings scored one run in the top of the first, Lynnfield plated four runs in the bottom of the first. They then scored twice in the fifth and six more in the bottom of the sixth.
Ganter pitched all seven innings allowing two earned run on six hits. She struck out 10 Vikings and walked just one.
Shapleigh and Ganter were both 2 for 4 at the plate as Shapleigh knocked in two while Ganter had one RBI.
Condon was 1 for 3 with two RBI.
On May 19, the Pioneers visit Pentucket at 4:45 p.m. They then go to Georgetown on May 21 at 3:45 pm. The third game of the team’s road trip is May 24 as they go to Newburyport.
Start time is 4 p.m. for that one.
