MELROSE — While the marquee race in the 2023 City Election may be for mayor, 10 people have so far expressed an interest in running for one of the four councilor-at-large seats up for election in November.
In addition to incumbents Maya Jamaleddine and Leila Migliorelli, those taking out nomination papers for one of the at-large council seats as of earlier this week are Michael Batchelder, Maria Berardi, Ward A. Hamilton, Michael L. Lyle, Edward J. O’Connell, John Orlandella, Paul C. Schille and Ryan L. Williams.
Williams, Orlandella, Migliorelli and Jamaleddine have already gathered enough signatures and had them certified by the city.
In addition to mayor and the at-large positions on the City Council, voters on November 7 will choose three School Committee members and all seven ward councilors.
Expressing interest in serving on the School Committee so far are David S. Trzepacz, Seamus Kelley, Matthew L. Hardman and incumbent Margaret ER Driscoll.
Current City Council President Jennifer Grigoraitis, Samantha Hammer and Monica C. Medeiros Solano are running for mayor. Unless someone drops their bid, there will be a preliminary mayoral election Tuesday, Sept. 19 to decide which two candidates will face each other on Nov. 7.
Here are the City Council ward candidates so far:
WARD 1: Manjula N. Karamcheti (incumbent)
WARD 3: Robert E. Stewart (incumbent)
WARD 4: Mark Garipay (incumbent)
