WAKEFIELD — Albion W. “Al” Hinds, 93, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Tufts Medical Center Boston.

Al was born on October 20, 1925 to the late Albion and Margaret Hinds of Wakefield.

A lifelong Wakefield resident, he attended Wakefield High School until his enlistment in the U.S. Navy in 1942. He served on board the USS Delta at the conclusion of WWII where he was involved in liberating American POWs in Japan. After the war, he returned to Wakefield where he married his sweetheart of 69 years the former Lorraine Surette. He obtained his master electrician license and was employed by the Town of Wakefield and later Gammons Electric before embarking on a 22 year career at the New England Medical Center in Boston. Al belonged to the Knights of Columbus and the St. Joseph’s Holy Name Society. He was also a longtime communicant at Saint Joseph Parish in Wakefield. Ever industrious and good with his hands, Al built his first home on Woodland Road and later moved to Overlake Road where he resided until his passing.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years Lorraine (Surette) Hinds, his son’s David of Tewksbury and Dana of Gilmanton, N.H., his daughters Lynne Ward of Somersworth, N.H., Diane Paraskeva of Hopkinton, N.H. and Andrea Donahue of Dover, N.H. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren

Al’s funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Saturday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 4-7 p.m. Interment, Forest Glade Cemetery, Wakefield.
