Wakefield man served in Korean War

WAKEFIELD — Alfred J. Manfra, 87, of Wakefield passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 16, at the EN Rodgers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford.

Born in Boston on Jan. 29, 1929, he was the son of the late Jeremiah and Rose (Bertucelli) Manfra.

Alfred was raised in East Boston and was a graduate of East Boston High School. Following high school, he served in the Marine Corps and Army during the Korean War. Alfred was a retired milk man for H.P. Hood before going to work independently.

He was the beloved husband of the late Mary (SimoninI) Manfra. He was the loving father of Wayne Manfra and his wife Sarah of Winthrop, Alan Manfra of Wakefield, Cheryl Ryan and her husband James of Wakefield and Ann Marie Lundmark and her husband Paul of Manakin-Sabath, Va. Alfred was the brother of George Manfra of Peabody and the late Jeremiah, Joseph and Edward Manfra, Anna Farrell and Florence Cappezzuto. He is also survived by his grandsons Daniel and Michael.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield on Friday at 10 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Friday morning prior to the Mass from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden.
