MELROSE — Mayor Robert J. Dolan, the Melrose Veterans Services Advisory Board, local veteran organizations and Melrose Veterans Services Officer Ryan McLane invite the public to participate in the 2015 Melrose Memorial Day Parade on Sunday, May 24.
This year’s parade will honor those who fought in the Korean War era, and the Grand Marshal will be all Korean War era veterans.
“This year’s parade is the culmination of our year-long focus on the Korean War and the Melrosians who served and sacrificed during that terrible and often forgotten conflict,” said Veterans Services Officer Ryan McLane. “Our Korean War veterans will join veterans from all eras in helping us to dedicate our new Korean War monument in the morning, followed by the parade down Main Street in a traditional recognition of those service men and women lost in military service.”
“Every year we set aside this special day to remember the brave men and women who have sacrificed their lives for our country, as well as our living veterans and those who are currently serving,” said Dolan. “I hope everyone will participate, either by marching or by coming to watch the parade and pay tribute to our veterans.”
The parade will be held on Sunday, May 24. Floats and antique cars will assemble in front of Memorial Hall at 12:30 p.m. All other participants will assemble at 1 p.m., and the parade begins at 1:30. The parade will travel down Main Street to the Wyoming Cemetery on Sylvan Street.
“Melrose is a very patriotic community and I hope they once again prove this by lining the streets and waving their American flags in honor of Memorial Day,” sid McLane. “We hope to see all Melrose veterans in the parade to be honored by their community.”
Groups or individuals who wish to participate in the parade should call the Veterans Services Office, 781-979-4186, or e-mail Veterans Services Officer Ryan McLane at [email protected].
