STONEHAM — Alphonse J. Bruno, 91, also known as “Al” or “Ally” to his friends sadly passed away on June 4, 2020 due to numerous health complications.
Alphonse was a resident of Stoneham for most of his life. He was born the second child out of four to Italian Immigrants Frances (Lucido) and Pasquale Bruno. Alphonse was born after World War I and was a small boy by the time World War II started, and growing up he learned that Americans had a duty to serve their country. As a young, proud Italian American he joined the army during the Korean War willing and able to serve his country alongside the rest of America’s sons. Unfortunately, due to health reasons he could not serve overseas and was honorably discharged from the Army.
Though discouraged he could not serve his country in the way he wanted, he soon found that his life was to take a different turn when he met and married his wife Glenys (Mitchell) Bruno of 66 years. Together they started their lives and, not long after, a family in a small one level ranch house in Stoneham which grew into nine children, a second level and many expansions onto the home. His life was very full and from two people came nine children, 20 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren with more on the way. He is survived by his brother Pasquale “Jr.” or “Eddie” Bruno.
Along with having a big family, Alphonse was a United States postal worker for his entire working life. He was an avid coin collector, loved growing his tomatoes in his garden and loved spending time with his family and helping out at Pats Place in the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Alphonse will be missed by his family but comfort is knowing that he is at peace and with his family and with God.
Funeral services are private and are in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield.
