ObitRizos-webHAVERHILL — Amelia A. (Karambelas) Rizos, 92, a longtime resident of Haverhill, passed away on Jan. 7 at Wingate of Haverhill.

She was born in Haverhill on Sept. 9, 1923, daughter of the late Anastasios A. and Ioanna C. (Kiriazis) Karambelas.

Amelia graduated from Haverhill High School with the Class of 1941 and later graduated from the former McIntosh Business School.

Alongside her husband, Amelia was the owner and operator of Pleasant Spa Convenience Store in Haverhill as well as the Village Market in Fremont, N.H.

Amelia was a member of the Holy Apostles Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church in Haverhill and its Philoptochos Society.

She was the wife of the late Lewis Nicholas Rizos, who passed away in 1980, and sister of the late Elaine A. Karambelas and Christopher A. Karambelas. She is survived by her two sons: Mass. State Police Sgt. Byron L. Rizos and his wife Atty. Helen E. Rizos of Marblehead and Mass. State Police Trooper David L. Rizos and his wife Dr. Kleanthi N. Rizos of Wakefield; her brother Charles A. Karambelas of Haverhill; her five grandchildren Sarah, Samuel, Sophia, Eleni and Amalia; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the calling hours on Tuesday, Jan. 12, from 4-7 p.m. at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill.

Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 13, beginning at 10 from the funeral home followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at Holy Apostles Church, 154 Winter St., Haverhill.

Interment will follow in the Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.
