Vaccari-obit-webPEABODY — Andrew H. “Iggy” Vaccari – 84, of Peabody, formerly of Reading, Wakefield and East Boston, died Friday, November 7, 2014, at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington.

Born in Boston, on May 6,1930, he was the son of the late Andrew and Margaret (Cefaglioli) Vaccari. He was raised and attended school in East Boston. Iggy was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a Sergeant and he served from 1953 to 1955. He was a graduate of Boston University and he received his Master’s Degree in Social Work.

He was a school teacher at South Boston High School for many years. Iggy was also a well known as a local professional boxer. He was a camp director and a guidance counselor.

He was devoted to his family, he had a great sense of humor and had a very colorful personality. He and his wife Mary, gave their lives to care for their handicapped son, who had cerebral palsy.

Before recently moving to Peabody, he was a former Resident of Reading for 15 years and was a member of St. Theresa’s Church in North Reading.

Family members include his loving wife of 61 years, Mary L. (Debilio) Vaccari; his daughters, Susan Forbes and her husband, William of Methuen and Paula Belliveau and her husband David of Nashua, NH; sisters Bernice Mastrangelo and her husband John of Lynnfield, Janice Braccia and her husband Robert of Danvers and Elaine Repucci and her husband Mark of Lynnfield; six grandchildren and three great–grandchildren. He was the father of the late Andrew Vaccari.

His funeral will be held from the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading on Thursday, November 13 at 8:45 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Theresa’s Church, 63 Winter Street (Rt. 62), North Reading.  Burial will be in Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the charity of one’s choice. www.croswellfuneralhome.com
