State climatologist for Massachusetts

 

Taylor-obit-webLUNENBERG — David M. Taylor – 77, of Lunenburg, formerly of North Reading, passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at the Highlands Health Care Center in Fitchburg. He was the beloved husband of the late Ann (Russell) Taylor, who passed in 2007, after 43 years of marriage together.

Born in Stoneham,  on August 24, 1937, he was the son of the late Richard and Viola (Bell) Taylor. David was a graduate of MIT, with a Bachelors in Meteorology. He lived his passion of all things weather for his entire career as a meteorologist at Weather Services Corporation where he began in 1967 as well as proudly serving as the State Climatologist for Massachusetts since 1982.

David was a resident of North Reading for 42 years and a former resident of Wakefield for where he grew up. David proudly served in the United States Air Force for seven years, traveling the world and inventing several weather apparatus along the way, until his honorable discharge as Captain in 1966.

When not interacting with his many weather observers and colleagues, David enjoyed traveling and taking day trips with his family. He was also an avid fan of the Red Sox and Patriots. He was always very friendly and kind to all he met and was always described as a kind soul with a great smile.

David is survived by two daughters, Suzi (Taylor) Prime and her husband Gary of Fayetteville, NC and Nancy (Taylor) Chelgren and her husband Jon of Hamden, CT; his four grandchildren, Zachary Taylor Prime, Noah David Prime, Michael David Chelgren and Madison Marie Chelgren; his only brother, Richard S. Taylor, Jr. passed away in March of this year.

Funeral services were held on Monday, November 10  at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading.
