Born in the Azores

 

PEABODY — Angelina C. (Fernandes) DaSilva, 95, of Peabody died Thursday morning, Oct. 2 at the Beverly Hospital after a short illness. She was the wife of the late Manuel J. Silva.

She was born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal on February 25, 1919, the daughter of the late Cerino and Maria (Clara) Fernandes and was raised and educated there before moving to Peabody in 1973.

She had been a caretaker taking care of her husband for 21 years after he suffered  a stroke until his death in 1994. She loved to do crocheting and cooking and being with her family. Angelina was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church and the Holy Ghost Society.

She is survived by her five children, Maria de Jesus Moniz and her husband Carlos of Graciosa, Azores, Deolinda DaSilva and her husband John of Peabody, Angelina Melo and her husband Idelberto of Graciosa, Portugal, Manuel J. DaSilva and his wife Nelia of North Reading and Jose Helder DaSilva and his wife Mary Lu of Peabody.She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Carlos, Paula, Rui, Marlene, Elizabeth, Elgina, Marco, Dylan, Caleb, Nicole and Courtney and 10 great–grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Manuel Cerino Fernandes.

A visitation was held on Friday, Oct. 3 at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur funeral home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Her funeral was held on Saturday, Oct. 4 from the Funeral home followed by a funeral Mass in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody. Burial was  in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
