Loved Elvis, traveling and baking

MELROSE — Anne Marie (Gianatassio) Rushton passed away on Wednesday, May 22 peacefully at home surrounded by her family. She was 90 years of age.

Born in Melrose and raised in Malden, she attended Malden High School. Anne is the daughter of the late Mary (Brescia) and Alexander Gianatassio.

Anne was happiest when she was with her family, making her gravy and meatballs and any kind of macaroni, but especially lasagna. She loved her Boston Herald word games. She did them faithfully and wouldn’t put the paper down until she finished every puzzle. She loved her family fiercely. Becoming a grandmother was the highlight of her life and her great-grandchildren were an added bonus. She loved to bake. Anne LOVED Elvis. She loved to travel with her husband Al. She did have one other love in her life, her 1973 Ford Mustang. Anne worked for Zatz Caterers for many years, Brandano’s Restaurant in Malden and Ogden Foods in East Boston.

Anne is the beloved wife of the late Al Rushton for 71 years. She is the devoted mother of Linda Silva and her husband Ed of Stoneham; Jeffrey Rushton and his wife Patty of Melrose; and Del Haight and her partner Peter Capalbo of Beverly. She is the loving grandmother of Michael Prisco and his wife Linda; Matthew Prisco and his wife Ashley; Robert DiGiammarino and his wife Christine; Melissa Rushton; and Jessica Rushton. She leaves her great-grandchildren Bryan, Gianna, Drew, Avery, Peter, Christian and Nathan. She is the sister of Joseph Gianatassio and his late wife Patricia and Mary Jo Gianatassio. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Visiting Hours were held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Wednesday, May 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. Procession from the Gately Funeral Home on Thursday, May 30 at 10:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Assumption Church, 758 Salem St., Lynnfield at 11:30 a.m. Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to attend. Interment in Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers, contributions were made in Anne’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
