WAKEFIELD — As the Friday deadline approaches for those wishing to run for local office in the April 28 election, just one seat to be decided that day does not have a hopeful seeking the position.
The five year opening on the Wakefield Housing Authority is the only elected seat that has failed to attract a candidate.
Yesterday, incumbent Gas and Light Commissioner Michael P. McCarthy, 8 McDonald Farm Rd., pulled nomination papers for reelection to a three year term on the board overseeing the Municipal Gas and Light Department.
Also yesterday, Harvest Road’s Dennis M. Cloherty took out nomination papers for the five year seat on the Planning Board, potentially creating the town’s second contested election race. On Feb. 26, former planner Matthew Lowry took out nomination papers for the same post.
Fifty valid registered voters’ signatures and addresses of Wakefield residents are required for the nomination papers to pass muster.
Following are some key dates for those thinking about running for office:
• FRIDAY, MARCH 6
Last day to obtain nomination papers . Town Clerk’s Office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day.
• TUESDAY, MARCH 10
