WAKEFIELD — Barbara I. Johnston, 92, of Wakefield died Friday October 5, 2018 at her home. She was born in Peabody on February 8, 1926 and was the daughter of the late John and Mae (Gilroy) Galenius. Mrs. Johnston was a graduate of Wakefield High School and later from the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital School of Nursing. She went on to work for many years in nursing at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital before retiring. She was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church and also a member of the Altar Guild of the church. She was also a member of the Wakefield Historical Society and for many years was a poll worker on election days.
Mrs. Johnston was the beloved wife of the late Charles R. Johnston. She was the loving mother of Jane I. McGrath, Cathy A. Noble and her husband Bryan and Diane R. Novelland. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is pre-deceased by her brother Norman Galenius.
