MELROSE — The body of a white man in his mid-20s was discovered in a grassy area behind Walgreens Monday afternoon, August 17.

Police received a 911 call from a Melrose resident around 3:20 p.m. reporting a person lying on the ground behind a fence adjacent to the rear of the the Main Street Walgreens. Police, along with firefighters and other emergency medical services personnel, responded to the scene and quickly determined the young man to be deceased.

Officials believe the body may have been there since Saturday, although they did not know for certain pending the outcome of an autopsy.

In a coordinated investigation, local police were joined by officers with C-PAC (the criminal division of the State Police dealing with unattended deaths) and the medical examiner’s office. The body was taken to Boston City Hospital where the Suffolk coroner performs autopsy.

A Melrose Police spokesman said, “There does not appear to be any foul play here. The belongings we found at the scene show that no crime was involved.”

On Tuesday, August 11, a Cochrane Street resident told police that on a recent return drive home from visiting one of her children she stopped at several gas stations. Back in Melrose, she discovered that her Bank of America account had been accessed and her address had been changed to one in Alabama.

Police continue their investigation.

The incident was recorded just before noon.

A 47-year-old Winchester man will be summonsed to court for driving a motor vehicle without a valid license.

The man was driving a Toyota in the Washington and Pleasant streets area around 5 p.m. August 11 when an officer reportedly saw the car roll through a stop sign without coming to a complete stop.

The vehicle was pulled over. The driver presented the officer with an expired license.

He was also charged with failing to stop at a stop sign.

The Weekly News does not publish the names of people police say they plan to summonse to court.

A bicyclist who reportedly hit the side of a City of Melrose truck at the intersection of West Emerson Street and Holland Road was taken to Mass. General Hospital Wednesday, August 12, shortly after 8:55 a.m.

A representative of the Painters and Allied Trades District Council told police August 12 around 12:20 p.m. that an unauthorized person cashed at least one check from the council’s account at the East Boston Savings Bank, 108 Main St., recently.

On Friday, August 14, four police officers getting something to eat inside Brueggers Bagels just before 8 a.m. were approached by a citizen who told them his $200 Schwinn Suburban bicycle had just been stolen. The bicycle is missing a front reflector.

Police continue their investigation.

A 29-year-old Malden woman will be summonsed to court for assaulting a man at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital August 14, around 10:35 p.m.

The assault allegedly occurred in a common waiting area at the hospital. The woman in question apparently grabbed the victim by the throat.

Two women will be heading to court following an altercation with a man who thought one of them may have been pushing trash out of her truck onto the ground at Pine Banks Park Saturday, August 15, around 4:50 p.m.

After the man confronted the pair, they followed him to the intersection of Main and East Foster streets where some sort of altercation allegedly occurred. During the disturbance, the man’s cellphone was smashed.

Both women — one a 56-year-old from Melrose and the other a 24-year-old from Malden — will be summonsed to court for intimidating a witness.

A Lynde Avenue home suffered some damage after a vehicle apparently crashed onto the property sometime overnight August 15.

The homeowner told police Sunday around 8:50 a.m. that she remembered hearing something during the night but thought it was noise from a passing storm. When she went out in the morning, she found damage to a wrought iron handrail, the front steps, some front walkway pavers and a set of tire tracks.

Police continue their investigation.

Police investigating a past assault at the corner of Main and West Emerson streets around 9 p.m. Sunday, August 16, decided to let the court sort out who was the victim and who was the assailant.

Police met a man who had the visible marks of being attacked at 8:53 p.m. He told them the assault had occurred on Crystal Street, after he yelled the driver of a motor vehicle to slow down. Police said they spoke to everyone involved and decided to summonse a 19 year old Melrose man and a 22-year old from Everett on mutual assault and battery charges. The Everett man is also charged with threatening to commit a crime, malicious destruction of property over $250 and intimidating a witness.
