WAKEFIELD — Boys and girls ages 8-13 from Lynnfield, Wakefield, Reading and North Reading are eligible to compete in the annual Elks Hoop Shoot contest on Sunday, Dec. 11.

Sponsored by the Wakefield Elks Lodge 1276, the competition will be held at the Dolbeare Elementary School, 340 Lowell St., Wakefield, from 8 a.m. to noon. Registration takes place from 8 to 9 a.m. and the Hoop Shoot contest begins at 9 a.m.

The age categories by gender are 8 to 9, 10 to 11 and 12 to 13 years old. All kids must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Participants are asked to bring a copy of their birth certificates to verify their age category. If a child shoots in the wrong age category, he/she will be disqualified.

Trophies will be awarded to the top winners in each age and gender category. The winners of each age/gender group will advance to the District contest. The further rounds include State, Regional and National contests. Regionals and Nationals will be reimbursed by the Elks.

The National finals will be held on April 22 in Chicago.
