MANCHESTER — The boys’ basketball team won its only game last week, improving the Pioneers’ overall record this season to 9-3.

The Pioneers crushed Manchester-Essex 64-38 Jan. 22.

Senior Tucker Torosian had a monster game for the locals, finishing with 14 points, six rebounds and three steals. Senior captain Brendan Sullivan had 13 points and six steals. Junior Louis Ellis finished with 10 points and eight rebounds. Junior Mike Carangelo had six points and nine rebounds.

“The goal tonight was to put pressure on the ball defensively and get on the offensive glass,” said Pioneers head coach Scott MacKenzie. “We were able to do both of these things and the results were positive. The kids deserve all of the credit for the taking the game plan and running with it. Collectively, this was the best defensive effort of our season and with 29 offensive rebounds, we were able to drive our point total up.”
