LEXINGTON — It was Wakefield’s turn this year after all.

The Warrior boys’ indoor track team completed its Middlesex League Freedom division championship run with a 74-12 triumph over Watertown in the fifth and final block of M.L. dual meets held last night at the Lexington Field House.

Wakefield finished the dual meet season with a perfect 5-0-0 record and clinched the title outright with the win. It is the Warriors’ second league championship in three years.

Last year’s league champion Burlington finished with a 4-1-0 record and in second place. The Red Devils had a chance for a M.L. Freedom co-championship had the Warriors lost.

“I am really happy for our athletes and coaches for another league title. It was not easy, but they deserve to be undefeated and league champs once again,” said head coach Ruben Reinoso. “The time and effort that our athletes and my coaches put into everyday paid off yesterday. I told the athletes at the end of the meet that we have come a long way and that I am really proud of them.”

Wakefield left little doubt as to which was the better team last as the Warriors had too much talent and depth for the Red Raiders to keep up with.

In the 45 yard dash, Wakefield secured first and second place. Senior Dan Sallade and Henry Stikeman clocked in at 5.45 seconds and 5.66 seconds.

Wakefield swept the 300 meter dash behind the efforts of senior TJ Sellers (39.27 seconds), Dan Summers (38.59 seconds), and junior Jared Hurley (40.77 seconds).

The high jump was a sweep for Wakefield. Junior Marc Biennestin cleared 5-11 for first place. Carmen Sorrentino, a senior, took second as he had a height of 5-7. Taking third was Tom Galvin, a sophomore, who cleared 5-5.

The Warriors went one-two in the shot put behind the efforts of junior Pat Redmond and senior Cole Mottl. They had distances of 42-4 and 42-2.

“We were very focused from the start as we swept the mile, 1000, 300, high jump, and two mile. We also went one-two in the shot put and dash,” said Reinoso. “Matt Greatorex had a very strong race in the 1000 meters and ran a very good time considering the track.
