Warriors hope to add a Div. 4 championship to their accomplishments

BOSTON — The Wakefield Memorial High boys’ indoor track team captured its second Middlesex League Freedom division title in three years this winter. Now the Warriors are setting their sets on another prize.
Wakefield has 15 individual athletes and three relay teams that have qualified for the Div. 4 Track and Field Championship Meet which is scheduled for today at 4:30 p.m. at the Reggie Lewis Track Center.
In the 55 meter dash field, Dan Sallade, a senior, is ranked 20th out of 32 sprinters with a qualifying time of 6.88 seconds.
Brian Smith, a sophomore, and Dan Summers, a senior, are seeded 14th and 32nd in the 300 meter dash with times of 37.23 seconds and 38.61 seconds. There are 32 runners in the event.
The Warriors also have two runners that qualified for the 32-runner 600 meter field. Ryan Sullivan, a senior, is seeded seventh with a time of 1:26.02 and Tanner Jellison, a freshman, is ranked 24th at 1:29.38.
Senior Adam Roberto posted a state qualifying time of 2:38.63 in the 1000 meter run and is ranked sixth among 32 runners.
In the mile, junior Matt Greatorex and senior Nick McGee are seeded first and third with qualifying standards of 4:24.25 and 4:34.44.
Wakefield had three runners make the cut in the two mile. Junior Tom Lucey, senior Jack Stevens, and sophomore Carter Margolis are ranked 23rd, 31st, and 32nd with times of 10:34.26, 10:46.70, and 10:47.19. There are 33 runners in the event.
The Warriors had all three relays qualify for the meet.
The 4×200 relay team is ranked third among 25 teams with a time of 1:34.56. The candidates to run the event could include Sallade, Summers, senior TJ Sellers, Smith, junior Henry Stikeman, and senior Carmen Sorrentino.
Wakefield is seeded second in the 4×400 relay among 30 teams at 3:31.25. The four runners are slated to be Summers, Sellers, junior Jared Hurley, and Smith.
The 4×800 relay team is the top ranked squad among a field of 20 with a qualifying time of 8:20.05. The candidates to run the event could include Greatorex, Sullivan, McGee, Roberto, Jellison, and Margolis.
Marc Biennestin, a junior, is seeded 14th out of 28 athletes in the high jump as he qualified with a height of 5-11. Biennestin also qualified for the long jump with a distance of 19-2 1/2. The junior is seeded 23rd among 26 jumpers.
The Warriors had three throwers make the cut in the shot put. There are 24 throwers total in the field. Junior Pat Redmond and Cole Mottl are ranked first and second with distances of 49-7 and 48-11. Alex Joly, a junior, is seeded 23rd with a throw of 40-3.
