Travels to Byfield on Thursday afternoon

The soccer pairings for the state tournament were announced yesterday and, for the Wakefield Memorial High boys’ soccer team, that means a first round matchup on Thursday afternoon against Cape Ann League power Triton.

The Warriors (6-8-4) are seeded 11th in the 11-team Div. 3 North field and will take on the sixth-ranked Vikings (9-6-3) in a first round game on Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Triton Regional High School in Byfield.

The winner of that first round contest will face third-seeded Pentucket (12-3-3) in a quarterfinal game which is scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m. at Pentucket Regional in West Newbury.

The semifinal games are scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 11 at times and venues to be determined. The date, time and place of the final has yet to be announced.

Wakefield is the lone Middlesex League team in the Div. 3 North Field. So there will be no tournament games against league rivals.

The Div. 2 North field has five M.L. teams in the 20-team field.

Burlington (14-1-3) is seeded second and the Red Devils will host a first round game on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Burlington. The Red Devils will take on the winner of a preliminary round game between 15th-ranked Central Catholic (6-4-8) and 18th-seeded Northeast Metro Tech (8-8-1) which is scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m. at Central Catholic.

Reading (13-3-2) is seeded seventh and the Rockets will take on 10th-seeded Winchester (10-3-5) in a first round game on Friday at 3:30 p.m. at Reading High School.

Arlington (9-5-4) is ranked 13th and the Spy Ponders will host a preliminary round game tomorrow night at 6 p.m. against 20th-seeded Malden Catholic (8-9-1). The winner will take on fourth-seeded Shawsheen Tech (13-2-3) in a first round game on Friday at 2 p.m. at Shawsheen.

Woburn (7-7-4) is seeded 17th and the Tanners will take on 16th-ranked Greater Lowell (7-6-5) in a preliminary round game tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. in Tyngsboro. The winner will take on top-ranked Chelsea (15-1-2) in a first round game on Saturday night at p.m. at Chelsea High School.

The quarterfinal games are scheduled for Monday, Nov. 9 at times and venues to be determined. The semifinal and final round are scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 12 and Monday, Nov. 16 at times and places to be announced.

Lexington (11-1-5) is the fifth-seeded team in the 18-team Div. 1 North field. The Minutemen will face 12th-ranked St. John’s Prep (8-5-5) in a first round game on Thursday at 2 p.m. in Lexington.

The dates, times and venues of the quarterfinals are yet to be announced. The semifinal games are scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 11 at places and times to be determined. The date, times and venue for the final has yet to be announced as well.
