Takes on Wilmington in first round Thursday

The girls’ soccer pairings were announced for the state tournament, and for the Wakefield Memorial High girls’ soccer team, that means a first round match against an all too familiar foe.

The Warriors (5-11-2) are the 16th-seeded team in the 16-team Div. 2 North field and they will face top-ranked Wilmington (17-0-1) in a first round game on Thursday night at 6 p.m. at Wilmington High School.

Wakefield and Wilmington are Middlesex League Freedom division rivals and have already faced each other twice with the league champion Wildcats winning both meetings by 6-0 scores.

The Wakefield-Wilmington winner will take on the winner of first round game between eight-ranked Concord Carlisle (12-4-1) and ninth-seeded Beverly (12-6-0) which is scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m. at Concord. That quarterfinal game is scheduled of Monday, Nov. 9 at the home of the highest seeded team.

There are five more teams in the Div. 2 North field.

Arlington (14-2-1) is seeded third and will face 14th-ranked North Andover (8-6-4) in a first round game on Thursday night at 6 p.m. at Arlington High School.

Woburn (12-2-4) is seeded sixth and the Tanners will take on 11th-ranked Dracut (7-2-9) in a first round game on Thursday at 4 p.m. at Woburn High School.

Belmont (11-6-0) is ranked 10th and it will face seventh-seeded East Boston (11-3-2) in a first round game on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. in East Boston.

Winchester (8-5-5) is seeded 13th and it will face fourth-ranked Boston Latin Academy (12-2-2) in a first round game on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at Boston English.

Melrose (7-9-2) is ranked 15th and the Red Raiders will face second-seeded Marblehead (15-2-1) in a first round game on Thursday at 4 p.m. at Marblehead.

The dates of the quarterfinals are scheduled for Monday, Nov. 9 with the times and venues to be announced. The semifinals are scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 12 and the final is slated for Monday, Nov. 16. The times and places of those contests are yet to be announced.

Stoneham and Watertown are two of the M.L. teams in the 16-team Div. 3 North Field.

Stoneham (6-10-2) is seeded 15th and the Spartans will take on second-ranked Bishop Fenwick (16-1-1) in a first round game Thursday night at 7 p.m. in Peabody.

Watertown (2-16-0) is ranked 16th and it will face top-seeded Hamilton-Wenham (17-0-1) in a first round matchup on Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Hamilton-Wenham.

Northeast Metro Tech (5-8-3) is also in the Div. 3 North field. The Knights will take on third-seeded Swampscott (15-2-1) in a first round game Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Swampscott.

The dates, times, and venues of the quarterfinals are to be announced. The semifinal and final games are scheduled to be played at Manning Field in Lynn. The semifinals are scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 10 while the date of the final is to be announced. The times have yet to be determined as well.
