Warriors have many qualifying athletes on track and in field

BURLINGTON — The Warrior boys’ outdoor track team didn’t win the Middlesex League Freedom division championship, but a Div. 3 state meet title would be a great consolation prize. Of course, Wakefield will have to contend with M.L. Freedom division Burlington at its home facility.
The Div. 3 State Meet will be held on Sunday at 10 a.m. at Varsity Field at Burlington High School and the Warriors have high expectations with a strong contingent of qualifying athletes, both on the track and in the field events.
Dan Sallade, a senior, and Ryan Obear, a freshman, are ranked 25th and 27th in the 34-member field of the 100 meter dash with times of 11.10 seconds and 11.20 seconds.
In the 200 meter dash, sophomore Brian Smith, Sallade, and junior Joe Carmilia-Smith have qualified with times of 22.70 seconds, 22.90 seconds, and 23.20 seconds. They are seeded 13th, 17th, and 28th among the field of 38 sprinters.
Smith and Dan Summers, a senior, are seeded 12th and 27th among the 32 runners in the 400 meter field with times of 51.80 seconds and 53.00 seconds.
The Warriors have three runners that have made the standard in the 800 meter run. Senior Adam Roberto is ranked second at 1:59.25, senior Ryan Sullivan is seeded 11th at 2:02.64, and freshman Tanner Jellison is ranked 21st at 2:04.10. There are 32 runners in the field.
There are three Wakefield runners that are among the 32 distance runners in the mile. Matt Greatorex, a junior, is ranked third with a time of 4:23.21. Senior Nick McGee is seeded third at 4:36.88 and junior Riley Bracket is seeded 21st at 4:42.60.
There are four Warriors that qualified in the two mile. They are Carter Margolis, a sophomore, McGee, Tom Lucey, a junior, and Casey Brackett, a sophomore. They are ranked 13th, 14th, 16th, and 23rd among the 32 runners with times of 10:14.80, 10:16.50, 10:17.10, and 10:29.53.
All three relays have a Wakefield entry. The 4×100 relay team is seeded second among 24 teams with a time of 44.08 seconds. The 4×400 relay team is ranked third among 24 entries with a time of 3:29.65. The 4×800 relay is seeded second with a time of 8:14.25 among the 19 teams entered.
Marc Biennestin, a junior, and Carmilia-Smith have both qualified in the high jump. Biennestin cleared 6’2” and Carmilia-Smith cleared 6’0” to be seeded ninth and 15th among the 31 jumpers.
Biennestin, along with sophomore Trevor Noble and senior Carmen Sorrentino, are among the 59-strong field of long jumpers. Biennestin is ranked ninth with a distance of 21’2”. Noble and Sorrentino are seeded 39th and 42nd with leaps of 19’7 1/2” and 19’5”.
In the shot put, senior Cole Mottl and Pat Redmond are ranked second and third among the 24 throwers that have qualified. They have distances of 48’3 1/4” and 47’10”.
Charles Senior, a junior, and Redmond are among the 24 qualifiers in the discus. Senior is ranked ninth with a throw of 123’5” and Redmond is seeded 12th with a distance of 121’8”.
