IPSWICH — It was an inauspicious start for then-sophomore Dan Bronshvayg when his first ever point after touchdown (PAT) try in the opening game of the 2013 season against Newburyport sailed just outside the right upright at the Middle School field. Later in the game, he drilled his first career point after to put an exclamation point on a 21-13 victory over the Clippers.

The next week, Bronshvayg went five for five in a 35-21 win over Saugus. Over the next two and a half year, The senior would fail to convert only eight times in 97 attempts.

Bronshvayg’s third PAT against Ipswich Friday night was his 100th career point making him the 18th member of the Lynnfield High School Century Scoring club. He kicked another point after along with a 23-yard field goal Friday night giving him 104 points and counting. He is currently tied with former teammate John Knee for 14th place all time and sits one point behind fellow standout kicker Steve Ullian, who finished his career with 105 points.

No doubt Bronshvayg will pass Ullian soon, something he’s had a habit of doing. Bronshvayg broke Ullian’s single season record of 34 PATs when he booted 47 last year. In the opening game this year, he snapped Ullian’s career mark of 75 when he nailed his 76th – fittingly against Newburyport. Overall, Bronshvayg has hit 89 of 97 attempts (91.7 percent), three field goals and he caught a TD pass last season to account for his 104 points.

“The kicking game is huge and Danny’s been great,” said Pioneer head coach Neal Weidman. “Being able to kick a field goal and put points on the board instead of having to go for it on fourth and goal for example is huge.”

Frank Berardino (1958-1961) tops the all time Pioneer scoring list with 262 points followed closely by Kyle McGah (2010-13) at 258. Joe DeBella (1960-61) at 188, Gino Cohee (2007-10) at 182 and Eric Hansen (1976-78) at 180 round out the top five. Eight of the 18 players that have reached the 100-point mark for the Pioneers played during the Weidman era. Chris Grassi (2006-09, 146 points), Jake Rourke (2013-14, 130), Mike Karavetsos (2010-12, 100) are the three others.
