WAKEFGIELD— Carl Mata, 71 a longtime resident of Wakefield, died Dec. 25, 2020, at MelroseWakefield Hospital.
He was born in Boston on March 14, 1949, and was the son of the late Alvin and Angela (Gumini) Mata.
Carl was raised in Medford and was a graduate of Malden Catholic High School, Class of 1967, and Suffolk University Class of1971.
Carl was a man with an extremely outgoing personality that served him well as a coach with the Wakefield Basketball Association and the Wakefield Little League. Carl was the owner of Mortgages Unlimited of Salem, N.H., before retiring. He loved to travel with his wife Maureen, especially to ocean towns on the Cape, Gloucester, and most recently Naples, Fla. His most treasured times were spent with family and friends.
He was the beloved husband of Maureen (Gordon) Mata. He was the loving father of Angela Normyle of Derry, N.H., Christopher Mata and wife Christina of Lake Wylie, S.C., Jeffrey Mata of Medford, and Brian Mata of Wakefield. Carl was also the grandfather of Brady, Carter, Jonathan, Nathaniel and Kennisen.
Carl’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield, on Thursday at 10 a.m. COVID-19 guidelines and social distancing will be in effect.
A celebration of Carl’s life will take place at a later date when it is safe to do so.
