Wounded Vets motorcycle run Sunday

MELROSE — As it has in previous years, the Boston Wounded Vets Run will pass through Melrose on Sunday, May 19. This annual motorcycle charity ride is dedicated to wounded veterans from New England. All proceeds benefit selected wounded veterans and charities of their choice.

Sponsored by the Melrose Veteran’s Memory Project, the visit included 8th grade MVMMS students and invited veterans who were honored during the trip, with a focus on Afghanistan veterans. iRaiders place 40th out of 94 at VEW World Championship

MELROSE — The iRaiders robotics team at Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School finished 40th out of 94 teams in their division at the recent VEX World Championship in Louisville, Ky.

A plan to deal with vacant buildings

MELROSE — Kate Lipper-Garabedian wants the city to be ready in case the economy turns sour.

Last month, the alderman-at-large filed an order concerning commercial properties that have been vacant for at least 90 days. A centralized registry of vacant buildings would be created, and the owner of a long-term vacant building
