WOLFEBORO, NH — Chester L. Spinney Jr., 89, of Wolfeboro, NH passed away peacefully on Monday, July 11, 2016 surrounded by family. Chet was born on February 12, 1927 in Petersham, MA and grew up in nearby Barre. It was in Barre that he met and fell in love with his wife of 65 years, the late Ruth (Waterman) Spinney.
Chester proudly served in the United States Navy where he fought in World War II. Upon returning home, Chet enrolled in the Wentworth Institute of Technology where he graduated in 1950 and pursued a career in engineering. Chet and Ruth were married in 1946, and after a brief time in Newton Junction, NH, they moved to North Reading to raise their four children. In North Reading, Chet held the role of Town Administrator from 1979 until 1985. Chet and Ruth then moved to Wolfeboro, NH, where Chet acted as Town Manager until his retirement in 1990. In his leisure time, Chet was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, skiing, tennis, and golf.
Chet is survived by his children Chester Spinney III of North Reading; Phillip Spinney of Jackson, NH; Robin Lensing of Gorham, ME; and Dana Spinney of Methuen. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Laura Parow and her husband, Mike, April Tighe and her husband, Rob, Jamie Phalen and her husband, John, Chester Spinney IV and his wife, Nancy, Eric Spinney, Joel Spinney, Amber Spinney, Mariah Lensing, and Kendell Benz and her husband, James. Additionally, Chet is survived by nine loving great–grandchildren, Amanda, James, Ava, Grant, Kayla, Lacey, Lana, Madeline and Parker. Chet is predeceased by his brothers Bruce and Glenn Spinney as well as his daughter–in–law Janet Spinney.
Visiting hours were Saturday, July 16 at Lord’s Funeral Home, 23 Club Lane, Wolfeboro, NH with a memorial to be held at a later date.
